Carlton Martial Named Preseason All-American by The Athletic

TROY, Ala. – The preseason honors for Troy linebacker Carlton Martial have been frequent and plentiful. Monday, he earned his maybe his most prominent of the year, landing on The Athletics' Preseason All-America Team; Martial is one of just two players from the Group of Five to earn the honor.

Martial, a native of Mobile, Ala., was one of six linebackers selected by The Athletic to their preseason All-America Team as he landed on the second team along with Wisconsin's Nick Herbig and Clemson's Trenton Simpson.

He enters the 2022 season needing just 104 tackles to break Northwestern's Tim McGarigle career FBS record of 545 tackles. Martial enters the season with 442 tackles and has averaged 122 tackles each of the last three seasons.

Coming off a season in which he was a finalist for the Burlsworth Trophy (top player who began his career as a walk-on), Martial is one of just two players at the FBS level since 2000 to record more than 425 tackles, 45 tackles for loss and five interceptions in their career – he has 442 tackles, 47 tackles for loss and five interceptions.

Martial is the nation's leading tackler since the start of the 2018 season, 66 more than the next closest player. In addition to the FBS tackle record, Martial is also within distance of the Troy tackles for loss (19), Sun Belt tackles (18), FBS assisted tackles (49) and Troy tackles (128) records for his career.

Fan Day
Football Fan Day is back on Saturday, Aug. 20, at The Vet. The event kicks off at 11 a.m. and is free to the public.

The football team will autograph posters ahead of the event for fans to take home; the Trojan Warrior Club will provide free food and drinks and fans will be able to take photos on the field following the scrimmage with their favorite position groups. Additionally, fans in the Troy area can pick up their 2022 season tickets during the event. Â

Football Kickoff Party
Football Fan Day is just the start of a busy day on campus as the annual Football Kickoff Party takes place in Trojan Arena from 6-9 p.m. Tickets are still available for the evening, which features a $10,000 grand prize, food and beverage, a silent auction, live auction and a chance to meet the Troy Football coaching staff.
