TROY, Ala. – Coming on the heels of a successful season on the court, the Troy men's tennis team was selected as an ITA All-Academic Team for the fourth straight year, while five Trojans earned ITA Men's Scholar Athlete distinction.Â
Â
In order for teams to qualify, they must finish the academic year with a collective 3.2 GPA or higher, while men's scholar athletes must carry a 3.5 GPA or higher for the current academic year.Â
Â
On the player side, Pelayo Antuna, Maxime Hillhouse, Christopher Tasker, Manuel Bernard and Francisco Erramuspe were all honored by the ITA for their academic successes.Â
Â
On the court, head coach Rolando Vargas led Troy to its second straight appearance in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament semifinals, 16 victories and a win over No. 48 Louisiana this past season. Carles Anton earned All-Sun Belt First Team honors and finished with the best overall winning percentage in the Sun Belt with a 20-5 singles record.
Â
In addition to the ranked win over Louisiana, Vargas and the Trojans almost pulled off another stunner at No. 24 Florida State before losing to the Seminoles, 4-3, after a pair of three-set matches didn't go Troy's way.
