TROY, Ala. – Troy Women's Basketball and head coach Chanda Rigby announced the addition of former Alabama guard Nia Daniel Friday.
Â
For the Crimson Tide, Daniel tallied 51 points and 24 rebounds in her 16 games played. She tallied back-to-back double-digit scoring contests against Western Carolina and Bethune-Cookman. Daniel tallied 12 and 11 points, respectively, and added eight rebounds, a pair of steals and a block over those consecutive contests.
Â
Prior to her time at Alabama, the Charlotte, N.C., native averaged 23.4 points per game, shooting over 45-percent from the field and 82-percent from the free throw line, at Gulf Coast State.
Â
"Nia has the potential to be an elite guard in our game," Rigby said. "I've seen her light up a scoreboard against high level competition, and I can't wait to see her do it in a Troy uniform."
Â
The 5'10'' guard was dubbed the 2021 Panhandle Player of the Year and earned All-Panhandle First Team honors. Daniel also led the Commodores in rebounds, averaging 7.2 boards per game.
Â
Alongside her Panhandle Player of the Year honor, Daniel was named an NJCAA First Team All-American and a WBCA All-American. She joins signee Jashanti Simmons and Tai'Sheka Porchia with these honors.
Â
The high school standout spent her freshman season at North Carolina, where she appeared in 25 games. Coming out of Hickory Ridge High School, Daniel was a three-start rated guard by ESPN.
Â
The four-year letterwinner was named the 2019 Charlotte Observer Player of the Year, a first team all-state selection and a two-time player of the year honoree. She also was dubbed the 2018 Southwestern 4A Championship MVP and the 2018 Battle of the Boro MVP.
Â
For the Trojans, Daniel will suit up in No. 12 with two years of eligibility remaining.
