TROY, Ala. – For the second straight season, Kelly Horne and Leanna Johnson have been dubbed NFCA All-Region selections, the organization announced Thursday.
Highlighted by Horne's second consecutive NFCA South Region First Team honor, the Trojans have placed a player on an NFCA South Region for three straight seasons. Prior to the 2019 season, Troy had not had a selection since seniors Kate Benton and Hannah Day were named to the NFCA South Region Second and Third Team in 2016.
Leanna Johnson has been tabbed an NFCA South Region Second Team selection in all three complete seasons with the Trojans.
"I am really proud of both Kelly and Leanna for being honored by the NFCA," co-interim head coach Taylor Smartt said. "These two have been leaders for our team offensively and in the circle. It is great to see them nationally recognized for their hard work."
Horne led the Trojans in several offensive categories including – batting average (.353), home runs (14), RBIs (28), slugging percentage (.729), on-base percentage (.530) and walks (44).
The Tallahassee, Fla., native broke her own single-season on-base percentage record, while her home runs rank fifth, slugging percentage ranks third and her walks rank second in Troy's single-season record book.
Inside the circle, the Trojan ace notched another record-breaking season. Johnson's 22 complete games rank eighth in Troy's single-season record while her eight shutouts ranked fourth, her 20 wins ranked seventh and her 242 strikeouts ranked seventh.
The Brantley, Ala., native led the Troy pitching staff with a 2.17 ERA over 196.2 innings pitched.
