Troy Enters the Bayou State for Sun Belt Outdoor Championship

TROY, Ala.- The Troy track and field team heads to Louisiana for the Sun Belt Outdoor Championship at the Ragin' Cajuns Track Facility from May 12-14.
Troy takes on its 11 conference foes, starting on Thursday at 9 a.m. with the decathlon and ending at 9:15 p.m. in the men's 10,000-meters. Friday opens with the decathlon again at 9 a.m., with the day culminating in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase. The championship concludes on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. for the men's triple jump, wrapping up with the men's 4x400-meter relay.

Record-Breaking Weekend
The Trojans enter the SBC tournament after two record-breaking performances at the Penn Relays. Edita Sklenska was a member of both performances with the women's 1500-meter and sprint medley relay.
First, Sklenska broke the 1500-meter run on Thursday for the second time this season. The junior found herself placed 11th with a time of 4:21.94. Then, Sklenska joined Maya Kelly, Naveyh Frost and Vennessa Frank, snapping the sprint medley relay record set in 2018 by over four seconds at 3:54.43 for fifth.
The men's 4x100-meter relay team of Eugene Vickers, Jaleel Gilbert, Quinest Bishop and Alex Robinson were the only winners for Troy at the Penn Relays at 40.70 to qualify for the championship race. The quartet ended the weekend with a second-place finish on Championship Saturday at 40.23.

Day one saw alumni Michael Alvernaz take home the gold in the men's hammer throw at the 64.08-meter mark. Current Trojans Cole Stewart and Marek Taskar found their way into the top five, with Stewart grabbing bronze in javelin with a 65.53-meter throw.
Maja Kuessner hit a career-high on day two in the women's high jump. Kuessner nailed the 1.75-meter mark to claim first place and 10 points for Troy. Also, Lauren Locke found her way to the podium with a second-place finish in the women's 3000-meter steeplechase at 10:47.04.
The final day of the championship saw Titus Sizemore, Matthew Likely and Gemma Finch prevail in their events. Sizemore dominated the men's high jump, hitting the 2.16-meter mark, while Likely finished at 20.44 in the men's 200-meter dash. Lastly, Finch beat out fellow Trojan, Sklenska in the women's 800-meter, finishing at 2:07.98.
