Troy Softball Primed for Sun Belt Tournament Matchup with UT Arlington

TROY, Ala. – The No. 4 seed Troy Trojans is primed for a Wednesday afternoon showdown with the No. 5 seed UT Arlington Mavericks in the first game of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament at Jaguar Field.
Troy (29-19, 15-12 Sun Belt) will square off against UTA (22-25, 12-15 Sun Belt) for the fourth time this season. The Trojans won the three-game series, 2-1, at the Troy Softball Complex earlier this season.
All-Sun Belt First Team selection Leanna Johnson leads the Troy pitching staff with a 2.11 ERA and 234 strikeouts over 186.0 innings of work. The Brantley, Ala., native boast a 1.99 ERA inside conference play and has picked up 10 wins, including five shutouts.
At the plate, Kelly Horne paces the way, leading the league in on-base percentage (.556) and home runs (13) after smashing two long balls over the weekend. Her .372 batting average ranks fourth in the league while her 44 walks rank second.
The junior was also selected to the All-Sun Belt First Team.
The last time the two squads me, Horne and Johnson both had record-breaking outings. Horne shattered Troy's career walks record, and Johnson tossed her second no-hitter this season to power Troy past UT Arlington, 5-0.
SCOUTING THE MAVERICKS:
UTA heads into the Sun Belt Tournament after falling in all three games of the series to its in-state rival Texas State.
The Maverick offensive effort is led by Morgan Rios, who enters the week batting at a .310 clip with a team-high 26 RBIs. The catcher was an All-Sun Belt Second Team selection.
Jessica Adams sees the majority of time in the circle for UTA. The freshman has recorded a 3.22 ERA with 75 strikeouts over a team-leading 180.2 innings of work.
