Troy Falls in Heartbreaking Fashion to Coastal

TROY, Ala. -Troy's luck ran out in its match against Coastal Carolina, losing in the final match, 4-3, on Saturday at the Lunsford Tennis Complex.
The Trojans (8-12, 3-6 SBC) stay put in sixth for the Sun Belt standings with help from losses by Appalachian State, UL-Monroe and Louisiana, while the Chanticleers (11-7, 7-2 SBC) clinch a first-round bye and guarantee a top-four seed.
Can't Clinch
Despite being up 2-0 to start the match, the Trojans found themselves down 3-2 afterAnastasiia Khokhlova (6-2, 7-5), Franziska Ahrend (6-1, 6-1) and Chiara Desia Dabarno (7-6 (7-5), 7-5) lost their singles match.
Michelle Ncube wouldn't be denied her fourth straight victory to tie the match, 3-3. In a gritty match, the senior edged out Mathilde Tranberg in the first set 7-5.
The transfer from East Carolina pulled out the win in the tiebreaker set, 7-5, following a narrow 7-6 victory in the second.
Olivia Elliott was the final Trojan at play. After dropping the first set 6-3, Elliott pulled out a massive 6-2 victory to bring it to an extra set.
The sophomore was stuck in a battle and fell in the extra set 7-6, bringing about the tiebreaker set. Unfortunately, Elliott couldn't pull off the match point with a close 7-5 loss, allowing Coastal to clinch the win, 4-3.
Taking the Early Lead
Doubles competition didn't start Troy's way, with Elliot/Ahrend dropping the first match early, 6-2.
However, Ncube/Hagar Amin brought Troy back, swiftly defeating Tranberg/Paola Landin Lopez, 6-1.
With doubles tied 1-1,Khokhlova/Andrea Widing were down 4-1 in the deciding match. However, the pair of Trojans mounted the comeback, tying the match 5-5.
The final two sets went Troy's way as Khokhlova/Widing took down the formerly 12-1 pair of Jesse Hollins/Victoire De Samucewicz, giving Troy the 1-0 lead.
Amin kept the momentum rolling in singles, improving her singles record to 5-1 in conference play with a convincing 6-1, 6-2 victory to put Troy up 2-0.
