Women's Tennis Sweeps on Senior Day

TROY, Ala. - The Troy women's tennis team concludes the regular season on top, sweeping Appalachian State on Sunday, 4-0, for Senior Day at the Lunsford Tennis Complex.
With the win over the Mountaineers (5-13, 3-6 SBC), Troy (9-12, 4-6 SBC) firmly overtakes them for sixth in the standings while App plummets to eighth.
Clean Sweep
The Trojans were up 2-0 after doubles competition and a forfeit on court six by App State.
Michelle Ncube continued her dominance in singles competition against Ellie Murphy. The senior took control of the match in the first set with a 6-3 win.
In the second set, Ncube dominated her way to a fifth-straight win in singles with a 6-2 victory in the second set to put Troy up 3-0.
Hagar Amin was determined to finish the job, taking on Virginia Poggi. Amin quickly took the first set with a 6-2 win.
The freshman had the lead early, 4-1 in the second. However, Poggi battled back, taking the following two points to bring it within one. However, Amin finished the job with her fourth match win on the weekend, clinching match point for Troy, 4-0, with a 6-4 win.
Domination in Doubles
The seniors started their day on top, claiming the doubles point to lead 1-0.
Troy already found itself one win from clinching the point after App State had to forfeit one of the doubles intended to play Olivia Elliott/Franziska Ahrend.
The Trojans still poured on the wins as seniors Ncube and Anastasiia Khokhlova led their pair of doubles to two victories.
Both matches finished at virtually the same time, but the pair of Khokhlova/Andrea Widing were credited with the clinch, overcoming Helena Jansen/ Murphy with a 6-4 win.
Ncube/Amin placed the finishing touch, defeating Poggi/Olwyn Ryan-Bovey, 6-2. The doubles win allowed the seniors to go a perfect 3-0 on the day following Ncube's singles victory.
