TROY, Ala. – Troy fell to UT Arlington, 3-1, to even the series Saturday at the Troy Softball Complex.
Brookelyn Cannon (0-1) earned her first career start in the circle for the Trojans (26-15, 12-8 Sun Belt).
Cannon worked around a bunt single to hold the Mavericks (21-19, 11-9 Sun Belt) scoreless through the first two frames.
In the top of the third, a fielding error and a walk put a pair of runners on for Sophie Wideman. Wideman smashed a two-out home run to plate the deciding runs in the contest.
After a four-pitch walk, Libby Baker entered in relief of Baker to get Troy out of the inning.
Troy's lone run of the contest came in the bottom of the fifth inning when an errant throw by the Maverick third baseman scored Kelly Horne, who reached on a hit by pitch.
Audra Thompson broke up Morgan Max's (3-0) no hitter in the bottom of the sixth with a single to center field but was left stranded.
Baker retired the side in the top of the final frame, but a leadoff single off the bat of Katelynn de Leon was not enough to spark the Troy offense in the seventh.
Max earned her third victory of the season after scattering two hits and a trio of walks. Cannon suffered the loss despite not giving up an earned run in the contest.
