TROY, Ala. – After leading Troy to a sweep over Appalachian State, Kelly Horne has been tabbed the Sun Belt Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.
This marks the second time this season that Horne has picked up a Sun Belt weekly award.
"I am super proud of Kelly for receiving this honor," co-interim head coach Taylor Smartt said. "She has done a great job not only leading the top of our lineup, but she also is an incredible leader for our team off the field. Kelly is a great example of hard work paying off."
On Thursday, the junior smashed her first career triple and came around to score. Horne finished the night going 1-for-2 with a walk, marking her 94th career walk and moving her into a tie for third in Troy's career walks record.
On Friday, Horne's hot streak continued, going a combined 7-for-8 from the leadoff spot in the doubleheader.
In game one, Horne recorded an impressive 4-for-4 outing after earning her first start in the leadoff spot this season. Game two saw Horne etch her name into Troy's single-season home run record after she rocketed her 10th long ball of the season.
On the week, the Tallahassee, Fla. native batted .800 with a pair of extra-base hits and a trio of RBIs from the top two spots in the Trojan lineup.
Horne and the Trojans will return to action tonight in a midweek tilt against Georgia Tech. First pitch from Mewborn Field is set for 5 p.m.
