BATON ROUGE, La. – A pair of comeback attempts fell short as Troy fell to Louisiana Tech, 7-6, in the Trojans' finale of the LSU Invitational Sunday morning at LSU's Tiger Park.
Troy (13-5) rallied from a 3-0 deficit to take a 4-3 lead in the middle innings and brought the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the seventh inning after the Bulldogs (15-7) single runs in the fifth and sixth innings and twice in the seventh to grab a 7-4 advantage.
Anslee Finch gave the Trojans a glimmer of hope in the home half of the final frame as she deposited her team-leading fourth home run over the wall in left field to score Libby Baker, who kept the game alive with a two-out single.
Baker led Troy's eight-hit attached with a pair of base knocks in her four at-bats. Taylor McKinney, Audra Thompson and Logan Calhoun all drove in a run for the Trojans.
Following Troy's four-run fourth, Louisiana Tech tied the game in the fifth on a Carol Easom single, but the Trojans were able to escape any further damage thanks to a slick double play turned by Calhoun from her shortstop position with the bases loaded. Sierra Sacco provided the game-winner for the Bulldogs with a two-out single in the sixth.
McKinney plated Troy's first run of the game with a double in the fourth after Finch reached on one of two La Tech errors in the game. Thompson followed two batters later with an RBI single to left and Calhoun plated Troy's third run with a sac fly to left, which the Bulldogs' left fielder dropped, allowing the fourth run of the inning to score.
Brianna Bailey (4-2) suffered the loss for Troy in the circle after allowing four runs on six hits in 4.1 innings of work. She entered in relief of Baker, who yielded three runs – two earned – on three hits in 2.2 innings out of the gate.
Emma Hutchinson (4-3) picked up the win in relief for the Bulldogs after allowing two runs on three hits in 3.2 innings.
