TROY, Ala. – The Troy men's tennis team returned to its winning ways with a commanding 7-0 victory over Alabama A&M at the Lunsford Tennis Complex Thursday afternoon. The Trojans swept through the doubles and singles matches to move to 6-1 at home this season.
Prior to the match, Troy honored its three senior players – Christopher Tasker, Manuel Bernard and Pelayo Antuna – and graduating assistant coach Santigo Veglia.
Head coach Rolando Vargas mixed up his doubles rotation after Troy dropped the doubles point in each of its last three matches, all one or two-point losses. Both of the new combos picked up victories against the Bulldogs, with Antuna and Noah Martens winning 6-3 on court two and Vito Llinares and Carles Anton winning 6-1 on court three.
Tasker, who played singles for the first time since Feb. 12, cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win on court six to put the Trojans up 2-0. Martens followed with a similar win on court two as he dropped just one game over his two sets and Llinares clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-2 win on court five. Llinares is now 17-4 on the year in singles, while Martens moved to 15-6.
Bernard added a win on court four, Nicolas Simkin picked up his 11th win of the season with a victory on court three and Antuna closed out the clean sweep with a 7-5, 6-2 win on court one.
Troy returns to action this weekend with a pair of key Sun Belt matches. The Trojans host UT Arlington on Saturday at 9 a.m. and No. 48 Louisiana on Sunday at 10 a.m.
