TROY, Ala. – Troy head coach Jon Sumrall led his team through its second practice of the spring Thursday morning as the Trojans spent two hours on the grass practice fields behind Trojan Arena. Thursday's practice had a similar feel to that of its predecessor on Tuesday.
"The energy was really good," Sumrall said. "The guys attacked today. The flow of practice was great in terms of the transitions and understanding the standards and expectations. We all play for the same team. We all play for Troy."
Troy continues to place a heavy emphasis on special teams as it was an early focus of Thursday's spirited workouts, and again it was a key part of the middle portion of practice. Sumrall's squad worked out in helmets and shorts again due to the NCAA's acclimation mandate into practice.
"The practice today was a lot cleaner," Sumrall stated. "We are going to continue to get better. On Saturday, things will get more physical as the guys are going to get shoulder pads on. Still got to grow as a team. There is still a long way to go but we have seen a ton of improvement already from day one to day two."
The Trojans are back to work Saturday at 10:30 a.m. and will split time between The Vet and on the practice fields. Saturday will also mark the first time Troy will be allowed to wear shoulder pads in the spring.
"Day two was pretty good," senior linebacker Will Choloh said. "A lot of the guys were flying around and making plays. We are really starting to understand the expectations and what our new coaches need us to do to be winners. We are leaving day two feeling great and hoping day three is even better."
Earlier the week, Troy announced its plans for T-Day on April 23; kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. and the day is chockfull of activities on campus, including a Fun Day, Lunch with Legends and Kids Camp. Visit TroyTrojans.com/TDay for full details.
