Leanna Johnson Named Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week

TROY, Ala. – For the fourth time in six weeks, Leanna Johnson has been named the Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.
The junior posted a 2-1 week with wins over NC State and ULM. Johnson also earned her second save of the season in the series finale against the Warhawks.
"I am very proud of Leanna for earning this honor," co-interim head coach Holly Ward said. "She has been working very hard in the bullpen, so I am really glad it is paying off for her in the game! She is doing a great job leading our team in the circle!"
Johnson tallied a pair of double-digit strikeout contests, including a season-high 15 against NC State. On the week, she boasted 37 strikeouts and allowed just one earned run over 20.1 innings of work.
After entering the game with the tying run at the plate, the Trojan ace hurled three strikeouts over 1.1 innings of work to secure Troy's series win over ULM and her second save of the season.
Johnson and the Trojans will return to action on Wednesday when Troy welcomes No. 2 FSU to the Troy Softball Complex. First pitch is set for 5 p.m.
