Pelayo Antuna Named Sun Belt Tennis Player of the Week

TROY, Ala. – Fresh off a pair of wins at No. 24 Florida State, Troy senior Pelayo Antuna has been named the Sun Belt Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday.
Antuna won a three-set thriller on court one against the Seminoles to keep Troy alive against one of the nation's top teams. After dropping the first set, 6-4, Antuna battled back to win 12 of the next 18 games to tie the team score at 2-2. In doubles, Antuna and Carles Anton defeated their duo from Florida State 7-5 on court three, and he started the week by blanking his opponent from Middle Georgia on court one, 6-0, 6-0.
Following a win over Jacksonville State on Tuesday (which was outside the nomination window for the award), Antuna has now won three straight singles matches and seven of his last nine overall, with the two losses coming in three sets.
Antuna is Troy's second Sun Belt Player of the Week recipient this season after Anton took home the league's first offering back in January.
Troy opens a three-match homestand this weekend against Southern Miss on Saturday at 11 a.m. and Chattanooga at 12 p.m. on Sunday at the Lunsford Tennis Complex.
