TROY, Ala. - Seizing 20 points en route to a men's track and field victory at the Jaguar Opener, Reuben Dotson claims the first outdoor Sun Belt Men's Track Athlete of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday.
Â
"Reuben had a solid performance at South Alabama," director of track and field Marc Davis said. "He followed a specific race plan to see where he was, and it paid off. If Reuben can stay focused and follow a plan, he can do some great things. I am looking forward to seeing how things pan out moving forward."
Â
The Houston native went 2-for-2 in his events at the Jaguar Opener in the men's 800-meter and 4x400-meter relay.
Â
Dotson opened the weekend, defeating his fellow Trojan in the men's 800-meter with an impressive 1:57.15 finish to claim 10 points.
Â
In the men's 4x400-meter relay, the sophomore joined his teammates in Martinez Bogan, Bela Karn and Jordan McCleskey.
Â
The men's track and field athlete of the week propelled the squad to his second victory over South Alabama with a 3:22.10 time as the third leg.
Â
Overall, Dotson accounted for 20 points in the 163-159 win over South Alabama to open the outdoor season.
Â
This accolade is just the beginning for Dotson as he returns to the track this weekend alongside his fellow Trojans at the Tiger Track Classic against Auburn.
