TROY, Ala. – Troy's regular-season finale against Texas State will now air on ESPN 2 on Friday, Feb. 25, in Trojan Arena, the Sun Belt Conference and ESPN announced Wednesday. In addition, tipoff has been moved to 8 p.m. to accommodate the national broadcast.
"It shows that we're one of the top teams in the league right now, and Texas State is as well, so it'll be a great matchup," head coach Scott Cross said. "Hopefully, it'll be a game where we're both competing for a conference championship. The guys will be super excited playing on national TV, and that's an opportunity that doesn't come along very much."
Both the Trojans (16-7, 7-3 SBC) and Bobcats (15-6, 6-3 SBC) have stuck to the top of the conference standings all season. The game marks a rematch from their meeting on New Year's Eve that saw the Trojans walk away victorious, 78-63, in San Marcos, Texas.
The Trojans are in a fight for first place with only one game separating them from App State, whom they will face on Feb. 17 in a rematch of Troy's 68-53 victory earlier in the season.
With just six games remaining in the regular season and only five games separating first from last, plenty of movement is inevitable throughout the Sun Belt Standings, with the finale holding plenty of weight.
"We'll have a great crowd here at Trojan Arena cheering us on, and I know the Trojan fans will definitely make a difference for us," Cross said. "The game has the potential to be the difference between winning the conference championship or not, but regardless it'll definitely play a part in the seeding of the conference tournament. There's not much separation from first to worst in the league, and every game is the most important game on the schedule."
The broadcast will be the Trojans' third time on national television this season following non-conference appearances against Florida (SEC Network) and Butler (FS2).
