TROY, Ala. - After its weekend series in the Sunshine State was cut short due to weather; Troy kicks off its home schedule against Alabama State on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. in the Lunsford Tennis Complex.
Heading into their third match of the season, the Trojans (0-2) are still searching for their first victory of the season - haven't started 0-3 since the 2017-18 season.
Slipping at Stetson
The Trojans battled with the Hatters, taking their first lead of the season after winning doubles competition, 2-1.
Despite the early loss in the first match of doubles, 6-0, Troy fought back to claim victory after Michelle Ncube / Kristina Kukaras (6-0) and Andrea Widing / Anastasiia Khokhlova (6-4) defeated the Hatters and grabbed its first point of the season.
After Widing and Ncube fell in the first two singles matches, Kukaras fought to win the Trojans' first singles match, 6-1 and 6-4, and tie the score, 2-2.
Following Widing's victory, things grew dim for the Trojans, falling in their next three straight to lose the match, 5-2.
What's in the Hornet's Nest?
Troy has dominated the Hornets (0-1) in the last 10 matches, going undefeated - the closest score was 5-2, twice.
Last year's matchup saw the Trojans win, 5-2, to open the spring season behind a 2-0 performance from Khokhlova and Anastas Khrustaleva.
The Hornets enter Wednesday, having played just one match against Samford after the weather canceled their past weekend.
Alabama State is not only searching for its first win but its first point of the spring season after being shut out by Samford, 7-0. The Hornets look towards Urska Velec, who led the team in the fall with an overall record of 18-7.
