Trojans Drop Series Finale to Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Double-digit strikeouts and 10 runners left on base proved to be the difference for Troy as the Trojans (5-3) fell to Jacksonville (6-1) in the series finale Sunday afternoon from John Sessions Stadium.
Leading the Trojans was Brandon Schrepf, who finished with two hits, an RBI, and a run scored in his second consecutive game starting in center field. Clay Stearns and Easton Krik each picked up an RBI, with Stearns getting his third of the series.
Early on, a Pitching duel ensued as Bay Witcher (1-1) and Christian Graham (1-0) went toe to toe on the mound. Each pitcher had five strikeouts with no walks through the first three innings.
Easton Kirk plated the first run of the game with a sharp RBI single that took a bounce over the first baseman bringing in Schreph, who got the inning started with the first Troy hit, advancing all the way to third after a stolen base and an error.
Troy had a chance to add a few more as they had the bases loaded with one out, but strikeouts of Rigsby Mosley and Colin Summerhill ended the Trojan threat.
The Dolphins capitalized on the missed opportunity in the bottom half of the second after a heads-up base running by Jackson Grabsky, who saw a pitch in the dirt and took off scoring quickly off a wild pitch.
After 81 pitches and getting the first two outs of the sixth inning, Witcher made way for Ryan Pettys to try and get the final out with two runners on. Pettys got ahead of the Jacksonville hitter, Blake DeLamielleure, but Pettys left a hanging breaking ball over the plate, and DeLamielleure ripped a double into the gap to extend the dolphin lead to 4-2.
Witcher finished the game with a final line of 5.2 innings pitched, six strikeouts, two walks, seven hits, and four earned runs picking up his first loss of the season.
The Trojans didn't go quietly, as in the top of the eighth inning, back-to-back walks came into score as Stearns doubled and Schrepf singled.
Troy was aggressive on the base paths trying to tie the game but was denied their fourth run as Hudson Hartsfield was thrown out at the plate on the Schrepf single.
Two errors in the bottom half of the eighth led to a Dolphin insurance run when another wild pitch scored the runner from third.
Despite a leadoff walk and a single by William Sullivan to put the tying runs on base, the Trojans wouldn't be able to convert and Jacksonville would take two out of three with the Trojans.
