Troy Softball Travels to UAB

TROY, Ala. – After kicking off the 2022 campaign at home, the Troy Softball team will travel to in-state foe UAB for a Wednesday midweek tilt. First pitch from Mary Bowers Field is set for 6 p.m.
The Trojans (4-1) are coming off a successful opening weekend after picking up a pair of wins over Southern Illinois and Purdue-Fort Wayne.
Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week Leanna Johnson (2-0) leads the way in the circle after recording a 1.24 ERA with 28 strikeouts over just 17 innings of work. The Brantley, Ala. native pinned opponents to a .094 opposing batting average.
At the plate, Kelly Horne leads the Trojans batting at a .625 clip with a double, two home runs and five RBIs. The junior has tallied nine walks.
SCOUTING THE BLAZERS:
UAB (1-4) picked up one win on opening weekend against Tulsa. The Blazers suffered losses from Louisiana, Tulsa and McNeese State in the Evangeline Bank and Trust Invitational.
Lindsey Smith leads the Blazer offense batting .400 with a double, a triple and a pair of RBIs.
In the circle, Sarah Cespedes paces the UAB staff with a 2.92 ERA over 12.1 innings of work.
