Troy Softball Set to Open 2022 Campaign

TROY, Ala. – Coming off the program's first NCAA Regional appearance in 25 years, the Troy Softball team is set to open its 2022 campaign with the annual Trojan Classic Friday at the Troy Softball Complex.
After a second-place finish in the Sun Belt regular season, Troy Softball was picked to finish third in the Sun Belt Preseason Coaches Poll. The 2021 Trojans posted a 17-6 mark in league play and swept five conference series for the first time since 2005. Troy finished the season 37-17 overall and second in the Sun Belt Conference, which received four selections into the NCAA Tournament.
Leanna Johnson headlined the league's preseason awards after being tabbed the Sun Belt Preseason Pitcher of the Year, while Kelly Horne and Jade Sinness were both named Preseason All-Sun Belt Team selections.
The 2022 campaign will kick off Friday at 2 p.m. when the Trojans welcome in the College of Charleston followed by a nightcap contest with the reigning Missouri Valley champions Southern Illinois.
Admission is free.

- College of Charleston heads into the Troy Softball Complex after a tough 6-35 season a year ago. The Cougars did not earn a win in CAA play last season.
- The reigning Missouri Valley champions Southern Illinois will face the Trojans in a pair of contests during opening weekend. After winning their league tournament, the Salukis fell to Arizona State and BYU in the Tempe Regional.
- Purdue Fort Wayne makes its way to Troy after a 12-27 2021 season. The Mastodons played just one out of conference series last season, going 1-3 against Evansville before finishing 11-24 in league play.
