TROY, Ala. – The U.S. Track & Field and Cross-Country Coaches Association announced Tuesday afternoon that Director of Track & Field / Cross Country Marc Davis had been elected the Division-I President.
"I am honored and thankful for the opportunity to serve as the USTFCCCA Division-I President over the next few years," Davis said. "To say I was surprised was an understatement."
Davis will serve three years in office, where he will lead monthly meetings amongst the USTFCCCA Executive Committee (consisting of a representative of each D-I conference in the country) and all D-I sessions at the annual convention. He will also be helping facilitate decisions based on proposals that will reach the general floor in meetings and maintain order, health and respect within the committee.
Before being elected President, Davis served a two-year term as a representative for the Sun Belt Conference on the Board of Directors.
"This is an incredible honor and recognition for Marc Davis," Director of Athletics Brent Jones said. "His dedication and expertise for the sport of track field are not only on display at Troy University but also nationally and internationally. Coach Davis will represent the USTFCCCA with grace, class and integrity."
For eight years, Davis has served Troy, accomplishing numerous feats, which include leading 26 Trojans to become Sun Belt Conference Champions. In addition, he has coached four All-Americans, two World Junior Gold Medalists, five Junior National Qualifiers and 10 USA Senior National Qualifiers. Along the journey, Davis has cemented 79 Trojans in program history since 2015 with record-breaking performances – three hold as SBC records.
"I am looking forward to serving the body, knowing there are a lot of complicated challenges ahead," Davis said. "As a body of coaches, we all have a common goal, and that is to make the sport of track and field better year after year. I am happy to work to facilitate that goal."
The Track & Field program is on pause, with the season scheduled to resume with Davis at the helm on Jan. 14 when the Trojans compete at UAB.
