Almost Giant Killers
Troy went toe-to-toe with No. 11-ranked Arkansas and stood tall despite losing 74-61 on a late 18-3 run in the final five minutes.
Down by seven, 53-46, Troy mounted the comeback to regain the lead, 58-55. Zay Williams went from crashing the boards on the defensive end to hitting his jump shot outside the paint at the 13:07 mark.
Ricky Council IV found another gear for the Razorbacks to erase any chance of an upset with 13 points in the final six minutes – hit seven straight points after Williams's bucket.
Nelson Phillips tried to stop the bleeding with his sixth 3-pointer of the game with 0:55 left to bring the deficit to 11, 72-61. However, Council IV hit the dagger with a slam dunk 12 seconds later to secure the 74-61 victory.
We Haven't Met Before
A slow 1-2 start for the Cougars has turned into a five-game win streak, including a perfect 3-0 at the JK54 Classic.
SIUE enters the first-ever meeting with Troy after a blowout 89-54 win over St. Ambrose. Four players finished in double figures, with Terrance Thompson coming off the bench for a team-high 15 points.
The Cougars are not shy to multiple players in double figures as the Ohio Valley Conference team has no clear-cut star on the offensive end. Instead, five players average double-digit points, which include twin brothers Lamar and Shamar Wright, with 10.4 points per game.
