Trojans Sign Local High School Senior Thomas Dowd for Class of 2023

TROY, Ala. – The Troy men's basketball program signs local high school senior Thomas Dowd as a member of the class of 2023, head coach Scott Cross announced Wednesday afternoon.
"Thomas, we first saw at our Team Camp two years ago," Cross said. "We were impressed and intrigued by him immediately and offered him. He ended up playing on the same AAU team with my son, Austin, so I have watched him several times, and he continued to grow on me each game. He shoots the ball at a high level and rebounds it. He is a very good basketball player and low-maintenance OKG that will fit in great with our culture."
Dowd graduates from Dothan high school in June after an impressive career with the Wolves. In high school, the 205-pound wing averaged 17 points and 16 rebounds en route to joining the 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds club. He also has the ability to stretch the floor, shooting 40.3 percent from deep.
At 6-8, the Dothan native was a menace on the defensive end. Throughout his varsity career, he managed to end with three steals and three blocks per game.
As Dowd heads into his senior season, he is ranked No. 9 in Alabama, having been a participant in the North vs. South All-Star Game. He's also been awarded to the 2022 Dothan Eagle Super 12.
Outside of basketball, Dowd competed on the soccer field, playing in the Alabama 7A district. He joins his family in college athletics with his father, John (West Point), sisters, Elizabeth (Shorter), Rebecca (Montevallo) and Katie (Mobile) and brother, Benjamin (Birmingham-Southern).
