Kristina Kukaras Thrives on Day One of Roberta Alison Fall Classic

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Kristina Kukaras dominated her way to the Patti Farmer Singles Draw championship round on Friday for day one of the Roberta Alison Fall Classic at the Baumgardner Tennis Facility.
Junior Kukaras led the charge in both singles, and doubles matches to go a perfect 3-0 in competition, keeping an opportunity for a tournament win within reach for Troy in both.
In singles competition, Kukaras was pitted against Alabama's Klara Milicevic in the opening round. The German native found herself down early after losing the first set 2-6. Then, Kukaras fought back to easily win the second set, 6-3, before winning a grudge match in the third, 10-8.
The next round saw Sun Belt rival South Alabama in Tereza Dejnozkova. Kukaras made quick work of her with wins in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2. Tomorrow, she will face ETSU's Ralitsa Alexandrova for the Patti Farmer draw crown.
Kukaras joined Hagar Amin in doubles for a tough 7-6 (4) victory to advance to the semifinals. Meanwhile, in singles, Amin lost early to Michigan State's Juliette Nask. However, the sophomore fought strong in both sets, eventually falling 7-6 (6), 6-4. Amin responded well in the consultation bracket with a big-time win over Tulane's Lily Walther in an extra set. Despite falling the first, 6-7 (4), Amin dominated the next two, 6-1, 10-1.
The last Trojan in action was Valeriia Avdeeva, who paired up with Stetson's Tess Menton in doubles after falling to her 7-6 (5), 6-3 in singles. Together they took down Alabama's Sydney Orefice / Rebeka Kern 6-2. In singles, the freshman struggled after losing to Menton, falling again to Ros Hu from Indiana, 6-4, 6-2.
