PARADISE ISLAND, Bahamas - The Troy University men's golf team slipped to ninth place out of the 12 teams competing in the NCAA Invitational in the Bahamas this weekend after shooting a 286 as a team.
Brantley Scott once again ranks at the top of the leaderboard for the Trojans after one round of action. Scott had a stellar back nine at the Ocean Club Golf Course and finished with a minus-three after nine holes. He would finish the day with a 69 to finish, tied for 14th among all players at the tournament.
Jake Springer finished one shot under par after his first 18 holes overseas. The front nine was not too kind to Springer to start, as he recorded bogeys on holes two through four. However, he rounded with six birdies on his last 15 holes to finish the day one under par.
The always-steady Will McFadden had an eventful back nine after starting his round one under par through the first nine holes. The senior netted birdies on the fifth and sixth frame but would net bogeys on 10 and 15 with a double on 12 to finish the day with a 73 and a tied-for-42nd finish after 18 holes.
Teammate Will Simpson was chosen for his first action of the 2022-23 season and would finish the day tied with McFadden with a 73. He was as steady as they come all day in the Bahamas, netting 13 pars in his first round of the year.
Nicklas Borrmann's score was just three strokes behind Springer's for second on the team but finished the day in fifth for Troy. He was even par through the first nine holes of his first round but finished with a plus-two on the back nine to conclude the day tied for 48th with a 74.
