TROY, Ala. – The Troy University men's golf team will conclude the 2022 fall season schedule this weekend at the NCAA Invitational in Nassau, Bahamas. The team will also be engaged in various community service projects in the area.
The trip to the Bahamas marks the first time in program history that the Trojans will play a regular-season contest outside the continental 50 states.
"Troy is about going out and finding elite, premier events that are international like this one is, head coach Forrest Schultz said. "We are trying to put our players in the best position we can, and not only that but some really cool places like the Bahamas."
On Wednesday, the Trojans will tour the island of the Bahamas and will embark on a historical tour of the island. After concluding the three-hour tour, Troy will host a junior golf clinic with local youth in an effort to grow the sport of golf internationally. Also, on Wednesday, the Trojans, along with other programs in attendance, will sit down for a welcome dinner for the tournament.
Troy is also partnering with Chancellor Dr. Jack Hawkins and the study abroad program in the Bahamas, and the men's golf student-athletes will participate in a one-hour course that will go toward graduation.
On the course, the Trojans will be joined by Arkansas State, Delaware, Duke, LA Monroe, Nebraska, Sam Houston State, Southern Mississippi, Stetson, Texas State, UTEP, and VCU, with the Rams serving as the host of the tournament.
Troy will play its first three-day tournament since the season-opening tournament in Choudrant, Louisiana, on September 11-13. The Ocean Club Golf Course will be the site for all the action this weekend. The par-72 course will play 7,159 yards for the men.
"The locker room is definitely buzzing, said senior Will McFadden." "Excited for the travel, excited to get down there and have fellowship with the guys for as long as we are going to be down there."
The Trojans are coming into play after holding a lead at the Little Rock Invitational after two rounds of play, and despite falling slightly in the third round, Troy still finished the tournament tied for fourth out of 16 teams in the competition.
Brantley Scott led the Trojans with a 214 that placed him in fifth place overall, while Nicklas Borrmann, Jake Springer, and McFadden had strong showings at Chenal Country Club in Louisiana.
