TROY, Ala. – Following a successful run at the ITA Southern Regionals a couple of weeks ago, the Troy men's tennis team returns to action this weekend at a pair of tournaments. Three Trojans will compete in the UTC Steve Baras Fall Classic in Chattanooga, Tenn., while a pair of Trojans head to Macon, Ga., for the Mercer Gridiron Classic.
"Our team chemistry has clicked from the beginning; right away, we started to get better; we didn't have to worry about the little things," head coach Rolando Vargas said. "The competition has been very strong, and our freshmen have given us some strength. I'm excited to see what we can accomplish in the tournaments this weekend."
Mario Martinez Serrano and Carles Anton, who both played in the main draw of the ITA Southern Regionals, are headed to the Mercer event, where they will play in the singles draw and team up together for the doubles circuit. Martinez Serrano won three times and battled the nation's eighth-ranked player in a three-hour, three-set thriller in the round of 32 during the event.
Yeray Andres Pastor, Nicolas Simkin and Francisco Erramuspe are all set to travel to the UTC Steve Baras Fall Classic. Andres Pastor earned a win over an opponent from Mississippi State, Erramuspe won twice, including a victory over LSU's Will Cubitt, while Simkin is looking for his first win of the fall after getting a later start to his training than others.
