Troy Concludes Regular Season with Critical First-Ever Meeting at James Madison

TROY, Ala. – The Troy women's soccer team concludes its regular season with a must-win matchup against James Madison at Sentara Park on Thursday at 6 p.m.
The Trojans (3-8-4, 1-5-3 SBC) sit tied for 12th in the SBC and require a victory over the Dukes (9-3-5, 5-1-3 SBC) to keep their tournament hopes alive. Troy also needs Southern Miss to defeat Louisiana and ULM to fall to Coastal Carolina to leap into a tournament spot.
Senior Day Shootout
After Troy found itself down 1-0 to ULM off a penalty kick through the first 45, the team exploded on the offensive end with three straight goals.
First, senior Jordan Stack punched her third goal of the season to tie the match after Halee Bradbury and Nia Wilson connected in the 50th minute. Then, 19 silent minutes later, Taytum Terrell continued the senior day trend when she headed in the go-ahead goal off a Gabrielle Chartier corner kick.
Ashley Rainho kept the ball rolling off the dish from Jayla Gage. Gage passed it to the left side of the penalty box for Rainho to nail it to the top right of the net and extend Troy's lead to 3-1 with 20:42 remaining.
The Warhawks mounted the comeback with back-to-back goals in the final five minutes to tie the match. After five unsuccessful shots, Courtney Marten capitalized on a mishap with the Troy defense to bring the score to 3-2. Then, Mara Gurtkamp launched a miracle from deep to tie the match, 3-3, with just three minutes left. In the end, both sides secured a point which keeps Troy alive in postseason play.

The Dukes have clinched a first-round bye heading into Thursday's match. JMU can move up to the first seed with a victory over Troy despite losing to Georgia Southern 1-0 on Sunday.
JMU is elite on the defensive end, ranking tied for first in the SBC in goals allowed at eight. They also sit atop the conference in goals against average with 0.47 per game and second in shutouts with 10. However, on the offensive end, the Dukes struggle, seated ninth with 1.18 goals per game and 13th in shots with 161.
