TROY, Ala. – Rising Troy senior Lee Poppell was named a Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar, presented by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA), the GCAA announced Monday afternoon.
Student-athletes must play in 50 percent of their team's competitive rounds, post a stroke average under 76.0 and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2 to be eligible for All-America Scholar status.
Poppell, a native of Tallahassee, Fla., finished his junior season with a 72.06 stroke average and a 0.25 score vs. par, the second-best on the Trojans' squad. He led Troy with 15 of his 32 rounds under-par, and all but one of his rounds counted toward the team card.
As good as Poppell was on the golf course, he was even better in the classroom, where he posted a 3.75 GPA while working toward his degree in sport management.
