TROY, Ala. – Troy senior Austin Stidham is one of 15 finalists for the 2022 William V. Campbell Trophy presented by the National Football Foundation; the award is college football's premier scholar-athlete award. As a finalist, Stidham receives an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship and will be present in Las Vegas for the 64th NFF Annual Awards Dinner.
Â
The entire 15 members of the 2022 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class Presented by Fidelity Investments will travel to Bellagio Resort & Casino in Las Vegas for the award presentation on Dec. 6. The winner of the 33rd annual Campbell Trophy will have his postgraduate scholarship increased to $25,000, be invited to the Heisman Trophy Dinner Gala and be honored at the CFP National Championship Game.
Â
Chosen as a finalist from an impressive list of 156 semifinalists, Stidham's academic and athletic resume is impressive. Already a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-American and three-time All-Sun Belt selection, Stidham is on track to receive his master's degree in education 6-12 in the Spring of 2023 with a perfect 4.0 GPA. A native of Russellville, Ala., Stidham earned his bachelor's degree in biology in 2021 with a 3.92 GPA; he made just three Bs his entire undergraduate career. He is one of just five student-athletes in Troy Athletics history to earn two CoSIDA Academic All-America honors and would be the second to earn three if he does so this season.
Â
On the field, Stidham has been just as impressive. A two-time All-Sun Belt First Team selection, Stidham ranked among the top 13 offensive tackles in the Group of Five in 2021 and was fourth nationally in Pro Football Focus' efficiency rating in 2020. This season, he has been called for only one penalty, has not allowed a sack in 6-of-8 games and has yielded just eight pressures the last seven weeks from his left tackle position.
Â
Stidham is the blindside blocker for one of the best passing attacks in the country. Troy ranks 22nd nationally and second in the Sun Belt Conference, averaging 293.1 yards per game through the air, and the Trojans are tied for fourth nationally with 19 passes of 30-plus yards this season.
Â
One of Troy's team leaders, Stidham, has helped guide one of the best turnarounds in the country this season. The Trojans are 6-2, bowl eligible for the first time since 2018 and have the nation's seventh-longest active winning streak following their fifth straight win in the "Battle for the Belt" last week.
