Day Two Sees Three Trojans Advance at ITA Southern Regional

BATON ROUGE, La. – Maria Guirguis, Hagar Amin and Kristina Kukaras advance to the round of 32 for singles on day two, Friday, of the ITA Southern Regional in the LSU Tennis Complex.
"The girls did really good today," head coach Rawia said. "Overall, they killed it in the singles competition. I'm excited to watch Maria, Hagar and Kristina continue to fight tomorrow. I'm also proud of Olivia Elliott. She lost a very close match but battled hard throughout."
Amin got the Trojans started in the round of 128 as the sole Trojan left to advance. The Egypt native battled tough to win in straight sets, 7-6 (4), 6-2, and join her fellow Trojans in the round of 64. From there, the sophomore made quick work of San Miguel from North Alabama, winning 6-0, 6-1 to punch her ticket to day three.
Elliott was the only Trojan to fall in the round of 64 after a grudge match with Tulane's Adelaide Lavery, only to fall 6-4, 6-3.
Guirguis and Kukaras regained momentum for the Trojans as both competed into the extra set of their matches. Despite losing the first set 1-6, Guirguis battled back to win in back-to-back, 6-4, 6-3, to advance. Kukaras had a similar path after dropping the first set (4) 6-7, only to win 6-4 in straight sets to move on.
In double's competition, Chiara Desia Dabarno / Valeriia Avdeeva were the first to exit the round of 64 with an 8-4 loss. However, Kukaras / Franziska Ahrend and Amin / Guirguis fought to stay alive to the round of 32, winning their matches, 8-2 and 8-6, respectively.
The round of 32 was where their doubles journey would end along with Elliott / Andrea Widing after all three pairs lost their matches – Elliott / Widing, 8-1, Kukaras / Ahrend, 8-5 and Amin / Guirguis, 8-1.
