Olivia Elliot, Maria Guirguis and Andrea Widing Advance to Singles and Doubles Main Draw on Day One of ITA Southern Regional

BATON ROUGE, La. – Through day one of the ITA Southern Regional at the LSU Tennis Complex, Olivia Elliott and Maria Guirguis advanced to the singles main draw while Elliott / Andrea Widing moved on into the doubles main draw.
The Trojans accumulated six victories on day one to advance three singles and four doubles into the main draw to compete on day two.
Despite a slight rain delay, the action began in doubles, with Elliott / Widing going to work. They made quick work of their opponent, 8-4, to secure a main draw spot.
Then, round one of singles qualifying began and saw Chiara Desia Dabarno (7-5, 6-2), Widing (6-1, 6-4) and Valeriia Avdeeva (6-1, 7-6 (3)) get eliminated early.
Franziska Ahrend battled hard in the first round with a three-set victory over Samford's Lindsay Song, 7-5, 4-6, 10-5. Then, she tried continuing the momentum to secure a spot in the main draw only to fall to Suhana Das from Southern Miss, 6-1, 7-6 (5).
Elliott and Guirguis made quick work of their opponents in the first round, winning 6-3, 6-4, and 6-4, 6-1, respectively. In the second round, Elliott made light work of Laura Lopez from Nichols, 6-0, 6-1, to punch her ticket to the main draw.
Freshman Guirguis had a slightly more difficult time earning her way, but she prevailed in the end, (4) 6-7, 6-1, 11-9.
