Carles Anton Named Sun Belt Men’s Tennis Player of the Week

TROY, Ala. – Carles Anton, the reigning Sun Belt Freshman of the Year, picked up right where he left off from last year by opening the season 9-1 across singles and doubles, including a ranked win in Troy's matchup at Miami. He was named the Sun Belt Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week on Wednesday for his efforts.
Anton defeated the Hurricanes' Dan Martin on court two in a three-set thriller, 5-7, 6-2, 11-9, after Martin entered the match as the nation's No. 121-ranked player. The Valencia, Spain native is 5-1 in singles in the spring with four wins on court two and one win on court one.
In doubles, Anton and Pelayo Antuna are a perfect 4-0 on the spring, including a win at Florida Gulf Coast, which was ranked in the top 65 at the end of the 2021 season.
Anton's five singles' wins are tied with teammate Vita Llinares for the most in the Sun Belt on the young season. He is now 35-5 in his career in dual singles with a 9-2 record on court one and a 17-3 mark on court two.
Troy returns to action Tuesday at Alabama State before hosting Alabama A&M on Friday, Feb. 4, at the Lunsford Tennis Complex.
