Men’s Tennis Cruises Past West Alabama in Home Opener

TROY, Ala. – Playing at home for the first time during the dual part of its schedule, the Troy men's tennis team made quick work of West Alabama Monday with a 7-0 victory at the Lunsford Tennis Complex.

Troy (4-2) won for the third straight time thanks to a clean sheet up and down its lineup. The Trojans lost just 34 games across the six singles courts as each of Troy's players won in straight sets.

The Trojans took the doubles point thanks to a pair of 6-3, 6-3 wins on courts one and two. The combo of Noah Martens and Vito Llinares clinched the match, while Christopher Tasker and Nicolas Simkin improved their record to 4-2 this spring on court two.

Llinares moved to 5-1 since the calendar turned to 2022 with a dominating 6-0, 6-1 win on court six to open singles for the Trojans and Pelayo Antuna followed with a 6-1, 6-3 win on court one.

The reigning Sun Belt Freshman of the Year Carles Anton continued his strong play with a 7-5, 6-1 win to move to 5-1 in dual action and clinch the match for Troy, while Tasker, Martens and Simkin also all won to close out the shutout victory.

Troy is now 25-9 on the year in singles play, good for a 73.5 winning percentage through the opening six matches and are 12-4 on courts one through three.

Troy continues its five-match run against in-state opponents with a trip to Montgomery on Tuesday, Feb. 1, for a matchup with Alabama State.
