Men’s Tennis Blanks Alabama State for Fourth Straight Win

TROY, Ala. – Behind a national-ranked win in doubles, the Troy men's tennis team won for the fourth straight time with a 7-0 victory at Alabama State Tuesday afternoon in Montgomery. Christopher Tasker and Nicolas Simkin knocked off the nation's No. 56-ranked doubles team to highlight the afternoon for the Trojans.
Troy (5-2) swept all nine courts to run its overall winning percentage to .775 in singles and .722 in doubles during dual matches this year.
Tasker and Simkin clinched the doubles point for the Trojans with a 6-3 win over Ruan Du Preez and Samrakshyak Bajracharya on court two after the Hornets' pair entered the spring season ranked No. 56 as a doubles' tandem.
Pelayo Antuna and Carles Anton remained unbeaten in doubles this spring with a 6-2 win on court three, while Vito Llinares and Noah Martens closed out play with a 6-3 win on court one.
Antuna put Troy up 2-0 with quick work on court one in singles, winning 6-1, 6-4, and Anton followed on court two with a 6-1, 6-1 win. Anton improved to 6-1 on the spring and 36-5 in his career in dual matches.
Tasker clinched the win for Troy with a 6-2, 7-5 win on court five to up his record to 5-2 on the year, and Llinares continued his spring domination with a 4-6, 6-0, 6-2 win on court six; he is now 6-1 in dual matches. Martens and Simkin rounded out the clean sweep for Troy with three-set victories on courts three and four, respectively.
Troy returns home Friday to play host to Alabama A&M at 2 p.m. at the Lunsford Tennis Complex.
