TROY, Ala. – More history was made this past weekend at the Crimson Tide Invitational as Troy senior Cheyenne Hayes surpassed the 1,000 career dig mark and became the fifth Trojan in program history to record 1,000 digs and 1,000 kills in her career.
Hayes recorded eight digs in the Trojans matchup against Buffalo on Saturday, giving her 1,004 total digs for her career. Hayes joins Vickie Paciski (1994-97), Erika Vanhootgem (1998-01), Rachel Hassan (2000-03), and Haven Triboulet (2000-03) as the only other Trojans to accomplish the feat.
"Cheyenne continues to solidify herself as one of the very best in Troy Volleyball history, head coach Josh Lauer said. "Becoming only the 5th player all-time to reach the 1000 kills and 1000 digs milestones is a testament to her being tremendously driven, talented, and well-rounded as a player. Cheyenne has been one of the most consistent pieces to Troy volleyball's positive competitive growth over the last few years, and I'm excited that she decided to return and finish her career with her teammates and friends this fall."
Hayes has the chance to make more history this weekend at the Chattanooga Classic. Hayes has 1420 career kills and is 27 kills away from most kills in the rally-scoring era at Troy and 224 kills away from being the all-time kill leader in Trojan history.
