Troy Announces Completion of New Soccer Field

TROY, Ala. – Director of Athletics Brent Jones and Interim Head Coach Nicole Waters are pleased to announce the completion of the new soccer field at the Troy Soccer Complex. The project that began in June features 2.5 acres of new turf as well as a state-of-the-art drainage and irrigation system.
An upgrade to the Troy Soccer Complex field was an essential need for the Trojan Soccer program and thanks in part to several soccer parents, over 50 generous donors and the support from Troy University, Troy Soccer was able to reach its goal and provide a first-class pitch for Trojans. Along with the enhancements to the irrigation and drainage systems, the new turf will provide a smoother playing surface that can help prevent injuries and sustain the field's long-term condition.
"First and foremost, a heartfelt thank you to all of our amazing fans and supporters who made the project become a reality," Jones said. "We are excited for the upcoming season and for our new leadership under Coach Waters. The field looks amazing, and I cannot wait to watch our Trojans open the season on the pitch in a couple of weeks."
The new drainage system included the installation of six-inch drain tiles every 15-feet at 45-degree angles to the field to help water pass through the drains and under the track surface. As part of the upgrades, Troy used laser grading to perfect the field surface. Laser grading cuts down high spots in the field and fills in depressions until the field conforms to the desired slope tolerances. In preparation for the laser grading, all existing turf was striped and subsurface topsoil was removed.
"I am so excited for the completion of the new field, and I can't say thank you enough to all the amazing donors and parents that made this possible," Waters said. "The new playing surface will go a long way in keeping our team healthy and ready to compete each and every week. We are very fortunate to now be competing on one of the best soccer fields in the Sun Belt Conference, and this field will contribute massively to our recruiting efforts. I just want to say thank you again to everyone that made this possible because, without your generosity, this couldn't have happened."
The Trojans will play in an exhibition match on Friday, Aug. 13, in Montgomery when they take on Alabama State at 6 p.m. Troy will officially kick off its 2021 season at home on Aug. 20 against Nicholls State and on Sunday, Aug. 22, against Alabama A&M.
