Troy Football Trio Named to CoSIDA Academic All-District Team

TROY, Ala. – A trio of Troy football student-athletes have been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced this week. Kyle Nixon, Austin Stidham and Luke Whittemore represented Troy on the District Four team, which includes schools from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and Puerto Rico.

Nixon, Stidham and Whittemore will now move on to the CoSIDA Academic All-American ballot. The CoSIDA Academic All-America and All-District teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field or court and in the classroom. They are the first Trojans recognized on the CoSIDA All-District Team since Seth Calloway in 2017.

Nixon, a senior safety from Fort Valley, Ga., has a 3.34 grade point average and is on track to graduate with a degree in business. He has been a key contributor to Troy's defensive efforts the last four seasons with 54 tackles in 41 games played with six pass break ups, four of which came last season.

Stidham, a junior offensive lineman from Russellville, Ala., is coming off an All-Sun Belt First Team season after he ranked fifth nationally with an 85.6 pass blocking grade (min. 400 pass blocking situations) from Pro Football Focus. He currently has a 3.91 GPA and is on track to graduate with a degree in biology / biological sciences.

Whittemore, a junior wide receiver from Gainesville, Fla., took home Troy's top student-athlete honor at this past spring's Trojan Tribute when he won the Trojan Way Leadership Award. Currently carrying a 3.9 GPA in graduate school for public administration after receiving his undergraduate degree in sport management with a 3.50 GPA, Whittemore has 53 career receptions for 706 yards and four touchdowns.

Troy opens the 2021 season Sept. 4 when it plays host to Southern in The Vet.
