Seven Trojans Punch Ticket to NCAA East Preliminaries

TROY, Ala. – Seven Trojans have punched their ticket to the NCAA Track & Field Championships East Preliminaries May 26-29 in Jacksonville, Fla. To qualify for the regional, individuals must post a top 48 time/mark in the region during the season.
Matthew Likely makes a trip to the East Prelims in the 200m for the second straight contested season. The senior ran a qualifying time of 20.44 seconds at last week's Sun Belt Championships, the 16th-fastest time in the east region and the 21st-fastest nationally this season.
Gemma Finch secured her spot in the meet with a time of 2:05.29 in the 800m at the Maroon and White Invite, the 27th-best time in the region this season. Edita Sklenska became Troy's second representative in the 800m with a time of 2:06.94 at the same meet.
Fresh off gold medals at the Sun Belt Championships, Maja Kuessner and Titus Sizemore will each represent Troy in the high jump with qualifying marks of 1.75m and 2.16m, respectively.
Two Trojan throwers, Michael Alvernaz and Cole Stewart, will make the trip to Jacksonville for the meet. Alvernaz will compete in the hammer throw with the No. 18 qualifying mark (66.13m) in the region. Stewart's bronze medal toss of 65.53m at the Sun Belt Championships punched his ticket in the javelin.
Athletes need to finish in the top 12 in their respective events to qualify for the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships held June 9-12 in Eugene, Oregon.
