EL DORADO, Ark. – True freshman George Burch led Troy for a second straight day as the Trojans wrapped up play at the Sun Belt Conference Men's Golf Championship on Tuesday. Burch tied for 27th place individually and Troy finished in 11th place to close out the year at the Mystic River Golf Club.
Burch carded one birdie during his round and finished with four for the week to lead the Trojans. He shot an 8-over 80 in Tuesday's final round as the course played to its most difficult card with an average individual score of 79.15.
Will McFadden tied for 38th place overall at 23-over par after shooting an 83 on Tuesday, Brent Hamm tied for 40th place at 25-over after a final-round 85 while Nicklas Borrmann tied for 43rd place at 26-over after shooting 10-over in the final round. Ryan Morrison subbed into the lineup for the Trojans in the final round and shot 18-over.
Troy, which finished 93-over for the week, started off the round relatively well and made the turn at 12-over par and in ninth place on the leaderboard. However, the brutal front nine of the course proved to be too much and pushed the Trojans down a pair of spots.
Georgia Southern, Little Rock, ULM and Coastal Carolina all advanced to Wednesday's match play portion of the championship. Teams will square off in semifinal matchups in the morning before a title match in the afternoon. Troy edged out rival South Alabama by two shots on the team leaderboard.
