Troy Treks Up the Mountain to App State

TROY, Ala. – The Troy Softball team will trek up the mountain to Boone, N.C. to square off against Appalachian State in a three-game conference series starting Saturday.
After splitting a midweek doubleheader with Georgia Tech, Troy (30-10, 13-3 Sun Belt) will take on App State (24-11, 6-6 Sun Belt) this weekend in a doubleheader Saturday starting at 12 p.m. before the series finale on Sunday at 11 a.m.
Kelly Horne leads the Trojans at the plate batting .378 with 16 doubles, four home runs and 37 RBIs. The sophomore's 16 two-baggers rank third in the nation.
Leanna Johnson (17-5) leads the Troy pitching staff with a 1.53 ERA over 133 innings of work. The righty has fanned 200 batters and pinned opponents to a .161 batting average.
SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS:
App State checks into the weekend series after downing East Tennessee State in a doubleheader Tuesday. Gabby Buruato leads the team offensively batting at a .376 clip with eight doubles, three triples and 17 RBIs. Kenzie Longanecker (12-4) resides at the helm of the Mountaineer pitching staff recording a 2.13 ERA with 61 strikeouts. The senior has hurled 105.0 of App State's 233.1 innings.
