TROY, Ala. – The Troy men's basketball program and head coach Scott Cross have announced the addition of former Ohio University forward Rifen Miguel.
The 6-8, 240 pound forward spent the 2020-21 season with the Bobcats after transferring to Ohio from Tallahassee CC.
"We actually recruited Rifen out of Tallahassee last spring and he took an official visit here before the pandemic," Cross said. "He waited until the late period and decided to sign with Ohio. He was a guy that we watched play many times. He's a very skilled post player who can really pass and can score with his back to the basket. I remember my first time watching him at an Alabama JUCO Jamboree, and he was dominating everyone that he played against. He was my favorite player that I watched throughout the entire tournament."
In his one year with the Bobcats, Miguel averaged 3.2 points and 1.8 rebounds in 12 games. The Angola native recorded a career-best 10 points in the Bobcats 101-46 victory over Cleveland State.
While at Tallahassee, Miguel averaged 7.8 points and 4.2 rebounds, shooting 42 percent from the field. The forward recorded 10 games with at least 10 points and had a career-high nine rebounds twice.
Miguel also spent a season at the College of Central Florida, where he averaged 5.9 points and 3.2 rebounds. The big man shot an efficient 54.9 percent from the field.
In addition to his collegiate experience, the Angolan also played for his country. He averaged 7.4 points and 3.9 rebounds during the 2017 FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup.
Miguel becomes the Trojans fourth member of the 2021 signing class, joining Cody Deen, TK Smith and Efe Odigie who signed with the Trojans Wednesday.
"He had a great year for Tallahassee and helped them win the Panhandle Conference with a 27-6 record for the season," the coach added. "He's a very skilled back-to-the-basket player that will really help boost our offensive production. Rifen was going against some great players at Ohio this past season, and we know that he has improved. Playing for two really good programs that have winning traditions made him even more appealing for us."
