TROY, Ala. – The Troy men's tennis team earned their second-straight Sun Belt Conference win with its 4-0 victory over Georgia Southern on Friday. With the shutout victory, Troy improved to 18-2 overall and 2-1 in conference play.
The morning got started with a highly contest battled for the all-important doubles point. After Troy got a quick, 6-2 victory on court two from Christopher Tasker and Nicolas Simkin, the duo's sixth straight win in doubles, things began to heat up. Troy and Georgia Southern (10-8, 0-2 SBC) went back-and-forth on courts one and three before Troy was able to get the victory from Carles Anton and Amer Bedwan on court three, 7-5.
Playing to clinch, the Trojans wasted little time jumping on the Eagles once singles play got underway.
The first singles win of the day for the Trojans came on court four when Vito Llinares made quick work of Jonathan Morales with his 6-0, 6-1 victory. The win was Llinares' third straight in singles and 15th of the year. Troy extended its lead to 3-0 when Pelayo Antuna earned the 6-3, 6-4 straight sets win on court number two. With the match nearing its conclusion, Bedwan, using the momentum he helped Troy earn in doubles, took care of Murphy McCullough with ease, as he earned the match clinching point on court five to give Troy its 18th victory of the season. The Trojans 18 wins this season are its most since winning 25 back in 2015.
