AUBURN, Ala. -- As she has the entire season, senior Gemma Finch led the way for the Troy track and field program, as the Trojans closed out the second and final day of the War Eagle Invite hosted by Auburn University.
Competing in the 800m and on the Trojans 4X400 relay team, Finch led the Trojans to a pair of second place finishes, re-establishing her school-record and career-best time in the 800m.
In that event, Finch ran a time of 2:06.24, finishing just over two-tenths of a second behind Michaela Lewis of Alabama State who ran a time of 2:06.01. After setting a school record down at the USF Invitational, Finch again re-wrote the Troy record book as she has now recorded the three fastest times in the 800m event in school history. The time is a top-30 mark in the country this season.
Later in the afternoon, the United Kingdom native shined again, running the second leg of the Trojans 4X400 relay that finished in second (3:40.27). The Trojans finished just a half-second behind Mississippi State and ahead of Missouri, Auburn, Samford and Memphis. The time was the Trojans fastest time in the 4X400 this season.
Highlights on the men's side included hurdler Julian Martin-Rogers finishing sixth in the 110m hurdles, Jordan Mereus finishing sixth in the 400m hurdles and high jumper Titus Sizemore finishing sixth in the high jump. Sizemore's score was a season-best result, while Mereus' time (53.69) was a new career-best.
On the women's side other than Finch, highlights included Jasmine Riley recording a pair of top-10 finishes in the 100m (8th) and the 200m (9th), Kasia Cooper finishing eighth in the 400m and Maja Kuessner finishing fifth in the women's high jump. Riley set career-best times in the 100 (11.83) and the 200 m (24.08). The sophomore also competed on the Trojans 4X100 relay team that finished fourth.
The Trojans will take next weekend off before returning to action in two weeks at the Maroon and White Invite hosted by Mississippi State. The meet will be Troy's final tune-up before the Sun Belt Conference Tournament (May 13-15) down in Mobile.
