TROY, Ala. -- The Troy men's basketball program and head coach Scott Cross have announced the signing of former Polk State standout and Kent State transfer Tekorian "TK" Smith, Cross announced Tuesday afternoon.
Â
"I remember watching TK when he was at Polk State two years ago, but he actually committed to Georgia Southern before coach [Mark] Byington left," Cross said. "When he committed I was a little anxious about facing him in the Sun Belt because I knew he was a big time player and saw what he was capable of doing on film. When coach Byington took the JMU job, TK decided to go to Kent State instead, but it ended up not being the right fit for him. TK is a dynamic scorer that can score at all three levels. His 3-point shooting is phenomenal, and he can play multiple positions as he is a great athlete, driver, and passer."
Â
A native of Memphis, Tenn., Smith joins the Trojans after spending last season at Kent State. The combo-guard appeared in just four games for the Golden Flashes before entering the transfer portal.
Â
Smith arrived at Kent State from Polk State College, where he averaged 18.1 points, 3.2 rebounds and 4.4 assists. In his two seasons with the Eagles, Smith scored over 1,000 career points and made 142 3-pointers.
Â
The guard was named to the All-Suncoast Conference first team in 2019-20 and scored 574 points as a freshman, setting the Polk State freshman record. Smith was ranked the 35th JUCO prospect in the country by JUCORecruting.com. The Memphis native recorded six games with at least 25 points in 2019-20, including a career-best 32 points against Hillsborough Community College.
Â
"TK can also help us as a secondary ball-handler, but he's a big-time scorer," Cross added. "We're super excited to have TK and he's going to give a perimeter threat that will make us much better."
