TROY, Ala. – Troy sophomore Brent Hamm has been named the Sun Belt Conference Men's Golfer of the Week, the league office announced Thursday morning. Hamm tied for first at the National Intercollegiate earlier this week with a 12-under 204.
Hamm's 7-under in the final round was the second-best round in school history ranking just behind his 8-under from earlier in the season. The Warner Robins, Ga., native's 12-under 204 ranks as the best by a Trojan golfer since at least the 2005-06 season.
The last Trojan to win an individual title came in the fall of 2012 with Tolver Dozier's win at the ASU Fall Beach Classic. Clayton Vannoy (2017) and Calum Masters (2016) both finished tied for first at their respective Sun Belt Championships during regulation play but fell in the ensuing playoff.
Hamm leads the Trojans with a 1.04 score vs. par for the year and with a 73.04 stroke average. Of his 23 rounds played this season, eight have been under par with four landing in the 60s. Hamm has been exceptional during the final round of tournaments this season with a 71.38 stroke average and three rounds in the red.
Hamm and the Trojans will look to build upon their success at the National Intercollegiate when they compete at the Old Corkscrew Invitational in Estero, Fla., April 12-13.
