AUBURN, Ala. – After its 10-game road swing, the Troy Softball team returns home to meet up with in-state rival No. 21 Auburn for the second time in six days. First pitch from the Troy Softball Complex is set for 6 p.m.
The Trojans (16-4) traveled to Auburn last weekend to participate in the Auburn Invitational, where they faced the Tigers (15-1) in the opening day. Auburn defeated Troy, 8-1.
Leanna Johnson (8-2) leads the Troy pitching staff with a 1.41 ERA over 64.2 innings of action. The sophomore ranks second nationally in strikeouts with 120 and is just 12 strikeouts away from her 500th career punchout.
Cleanup hitter Kelly Horne leads the team batting a .390 clip with eight doubles, three home runs and 20 RBIs. The second baseman's eight doubles rank third nationally while her 20 RBIs ranks 23rd.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS:
Auburn checks into the Troy Softball Complex with its lone loss being to No. 20 South Carolina. The Tigers have now won 10 consecutive games.
Lindsey Garcia leads the squad at the plate batting a .522 mark with a pair of doubles, one home run and 10 RBIs. Maddie Penta and Shelby Lowe see the majority of time in the circle. The freshmen have recorded a 1.34 and 0.61 ERA, respectively, and combined for 115 strikeouts.
