Men's Tennis Back In Win Column With First Sun Belt Victory

MOBILE, Ala. – The Troy men's tennis team got back into the win column on Saturday with its 4-2 victory over Louisiana. The win was Troy's first of the Sun Belt season and 17th overall.

Troy, who improved to 17-2, 1-1 SBC, didn't let their first loss in over a month on Friday cost them on Saturday as they got back to work with a dominant performance in doubles. The Trojans wasted no time jumping on Louisiana (9-9, 0-1 SBC) on Saturday, winning the doubles point with ease. Troy's top pair on the day, Pelayo Antuna and Manuel Bernard got the first victory with their 6-4 decision, while Nicolas Simkin and Christopher Tasker continued to impress in doubles with their fourth straight doubles win together and ninth of the season.

With Troy and Louisiana playing to clinch, the Trojans only needed three wins to leave Mobile with a victory. Picking up right where they left off in doubles, Tasker and Simkin where equally as dominant in singles. Tasker earned Troy's second point of the day with a 6-3, 6-0 victory, while Simkin gave the Trojans a 3-0 advantage with his 6-1, 6-4 decision on court six.

Louisiana didn't go down without a fight however, earning back-to-back points on courts one and two. Those two points would be all Louisiana would get as the door was finally closed on court four when Vito Llinares earned a 6-3, 6-7, 6-3 victory, to give Troy its first Sun Belt victory of the season.

Troy will be back home this coming weekend when they host Georgia State at 2 p.m. on Friday and Georgia Southern at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
