TROY, Ala. – Despite strong performances in the circle, Troy fell to No. 21 Auburn, 3-0, Wednesday night at the Troy Softball Complex.
After a pair of quiet innings to open the contest, the Tigers (16-1) scratched across a run in the top of third inning.
Makenna Dowell and Sydney Cox drew a pair of one-out walks to put runners on for Makayla Packer. Packer bunted safely, loading the bases for the Tigers. Aspyn Godwin then drew a walk to plate the first run of the contest.
After the Trojans (16-5) were retired in order, a two-run home run by Dowell gave Auburn the three-run advantage that they would hold through the rest of the contest.
Libby Baker entered in relief of Johnson in the top of the sixth and allowed just one hit through the remaining two innings.
Katie Lively roped a single up the middle in the bottom of the sixth to record Troy's first hit of the matchup but was left stranded.
Katie Webb attempted to spark a two-out rally in the bottom of the seventh, getting on with a bunt single, but Troy wasn't able to maintain the momentum.
Leanna Johnson (8-3) suffered the loss for Troy allowing three runs, four hits, and three walks. The sophomore struck out five Auburn batters.
Shelby Lowe (6-0) earned the victory scattering two hits en route to the complete-game shutout victory.
